Sycamore carving: Root carving w/ stone 2010

This piece I found on the Susquehanna River just south of Sidney, NY, where a fallen Sycamore tree left its roots exposed.  Even as  I watched a bald eagle being attacked by a blueJay on the opposite shore, I balanced on the front tip of my canoe and brushed away thick spider webs to saw off the root pieces that had stone in them. The shape and grain of the root inspired a scaly, creepy vision for
this piece. First place winner in the mixed-media amateur sculpture category at the 2010 New York State Fair.
