Faux-mosaic frame for tiled number. Acrylic on basswood with ceramic tile in center. October, 2015

A tiled number that I bought in Barcelona gets a new home in this faux-mosaic frame. The three ceramic tiles that form the "8" in the center are framed within one solid piece of basswood that has been carved and painted to appear as though it were mosaic tile.  I later added a polyurethane coating to give it a shiny quality.  I did my best to match the tile colors with the acrylic paint on the wood frame.

In the picture above you can see where the ceramic tile is intended to fit.  The rest of the piece is one solid piece of bass wood, the surface of which has been carved to look like ceramic tiles.  The "tiles" have then been painted.

In the picture above, one can see the project in progress.  Some tiles have been painted and others have not.
In the photo above one can see that the "tiles" have been carved into the surface of the wood but have yet to be painted.

The original design was wider and left room to include a design on each side.

  2. Esta muy cerca del museo de Picasso. En esa misma calle. Cuando sales del museo, estara hacia la izquierda, dentro de cien metros, mas o menos.
