Most art museums that feature the art of indigenous cultures have at least one war club. These beautifully carved clubs always captured my attention and I often felt the urge to make one of my own. I began this piece about five years ago in 2009, but I only carved the handle and then left it. After all, who really needs one of these? . I put it aside for a few years and came back to it recently. I tried experimenting with some different textures in this piece, but I'm frequently drawn back to the scalloped plates of the arthropod for inspiration.
