Measuring about three feet tall, this faux-mosaic owl is constructed using a number of boards that have been joined together to form one larger canvas. Unless you have access to large pieces of wood, the best way I've found to create a large canvass on which to carve is to attach boards together and then carve them into the shape and depth that you wanted. The owl was constructed using boards from a wall that we removed from our house. Nine board widths are stacked from top to bottom, and in certain parts, the boards have been placed one on top of the other to create some depth in parts like the beak.
